Hui-Hsuan (Ariel) Su, Cello
Hui-Hsuan (Ariel) Su is a Taiwanese-born cellist whose artistry spans orchestral performance, chamber music, contemporary music, and musical theatre across the United States and Taiwan. Grounded in a rich background that encompasses Western classical tradition, Chinese music, and Taiwanese traditional music, Ariel brings a distinctive cultural perspective to her work. Her orchestral experience includes frequent appearances as a substitute cellist with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic , and she has also performed with the Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra. Her versatility extends to the stage, having performed as the orchestral cellist in a production of Sweeney Todd with Stage Coach Players in Illinois.
A passionate performer of classical and folk music, Ariel has participated in masterclasses with internationally acclaimed cellists such as Paul Katz, Zuill Bailey, and Colin Carr, as well as with celebrated chamber ensembles like the JACK Quartet, Chiara String Quartet, and Parker Quartet. She pursued advanced studies at The Hartt School, where she earned her Master of Music. In 2024, she was awarded First Place in the Donna Turner Smith Cello Competition.
Throughout her advanced studies, she has been under the guidance of leading pedagogues including Jonathan Ruck, Cheng-Hou Lee, and Mihai Tetel. She is currently completing her Doctor of Musical Arts in Cello Performance at the University of Oklahoma, where she is ABD and expects to graduate in Spring 2026.
