Laura Sacks, Viola

Laura Sacks is a New York City-based violist who enjoys a multifaceted career. This season she looks forward to concerts with the Knights, New York City Ballet, NOVUS, Experiential Orchestra, Wordless Music Orchestra, Albany Symphony, Vermont Symphony and the Chamber Orchestra of New York. She recently performed a season with the Sarasota Opera, and enjoyed a summer at June in Buffalo. Her chamber music ensemble, Crystalline Chamber Collective, has appeared on series such as Downtown Music at Grace and Saugerties ProMusica, and looks forward to several concerts at Bargemusic this spring.
Comfortable in many genres, Laura joined the legendary Eagles on their North American tour in 2018 and held the viola chair on the Broadway National Tour of Miss Saigon- she has also subbed on Broadway in NYC. Highlights of this past year include performances with Laufey on Good Morning America/Rockefeller X-mas tree lighting, recording with Maxwell and Cynthia Erivo, performing alongside Barry Manilow at Radio City Music Hall, Lake Street Dive at Madison Square Garden, Lea Michele at Carnegie Hall and Halsey at NJ PAC. She regularly works with the Grammy-winning 8 Bit Big Band and can be seen on Jimmy Kimmel Live performing with Chelsea Cutler, as well as in the house band on Saturday Night Live. Laura can also be heard frequently in Candlelight concerts with the Highline String Quartet throughout the tristate area.
Laura holds a bachelor’s degree from New York University, a master’s degree from the Manhattan School of Music, and a doctorate at Stony Brook University. She is on the faculty at Harlem School of the Arts, and has previously enjoyed teaching at Special Music School and the Lucy Moses School.
