Max Heyck, composer
Max Heyck is a junior composer at the University of Oklahoma, where he studies with Jerod Tate and Konstantinos Karathanasis. In addition to writing music Max plays piano and saxophone and has performed in concert bands for many years. Max enjoys writing music for chamber and large ensembles alike, with a special love for winds. Among other things, Max finds musical inspiration in poetry, classic literature and American history.
Max’s work has been recognized with numerous awards, including The University of Oklahoma’s Pauline Huneke Memorial Award, first place in the Prelude Camp Young Composers Competition, and winning the Brightmusic Commissioning Competition. Max has made appearances at such festivals as the International Music Festival of the Adriatic and Tonal Composers Festival|Brasília.
Max is Director of Operations for the University of Oklahoma’s Composers United organization, and served as president of OU’s Music Composition Club from 2022-2023. Max currently works as a composer, engraver and pianist.
