William Scharnberg, Horn

William Scharnberg is a Regents Professor of Music at the University of North Texas where he has taught Horn, Chamber Music, and Brass Pedagogy since 1983.  He is principal horn of the Dallas Opera Orchestra and has performed as principal horn of the Royal Opera Orchestra of Stockholm, Dallas Symphony, Dallas Bach Society, Fort Worth Early Music Society, Atlanta Baroque Orchestra, Missoula Chamber Orchestra, Flathead Festival Orchestra, Tri-City Symphony (Iowa-Illinois), Tacoma Symphony, and Classical Music Seminar (Austria), and Breckenridge Festival Orchestra. He has appeared as a soloist with regional orchestras, as a featured artist at three International Horn Workshops, recorded on the Crystal, Centaur, EcoClassics labels, and been a guest artist at many regional horn events.  He earned the DMA degree at the University of Iowa and taught at Central Missouri State University, Pacific Lutheran University, The University of Oklahoma, and the Royal Academy of Music-Stockholm.  He is the Editor of The Horn Call, journal of The International Horn Society, and has served the Horn Society as President, Music Review Editor, and as a member of its Advisory Council.  His editions of eighteenth and nineteenth-century works for horn have been published.
